While we all know how important eating healthily is, it can be a real effort to stick to healthy eating. Especially, if you spend time with people who are more likely to order a dominoes than reach for a healthy salad. However, there are plenty of ways you can motivate yourself and ensure that your stick to your healthy eating plan.
To ensure that you stick to eating healthily, the key is to know why healthy eating is important to you. It is also important to find ways to enjoy and have fun with healthy eating and healthy foods.
To help you stick to your healthy eating plan, we have come up with five ways you can motivate yourself. To find out more, have a read of this.
1. Why do you want to eat healthily?
Before you start a healthy eating plan, it is important to ask yourself why eating healthily is important. Do you want to lose weight? Will it help a health problem? Or, do you simply want to be healthier? Think about why eating healthily is important to you.
Whether you want to drop a dress size or feel happier about yourself, it is important to know what it is that has inspired you to change your diet. When you are feeling low and need a boost, make sure to have a look back at your reasons for motivation.
2. Remember what being healthy feels like
There will have been some point in your life when you were healthy, try to think back to how it made you feel. Think about how clean, fresh and unbloated your body felt when you were eating healthily.
Once you have managed to delve into a memory, dig a little deeper. Can you remember how your skin felt, how your stomach felt and how your muscles felt? Use these good feelings as motivation for carrying on.
3. Start small
Don’t just dive into healthy eating. Instead, make small adjustments to your diet and work up to a larger goal. For instance, you could start off by cutting processed snacks and drinks out of your diet, and then eventually work up to cutting out all processed foods.
By taking things slowly, you are more likely to adjust, stay motivated and be successful on your new healthy eating plan.
4. Make it fun
The key to staying motivated is to make healthy eating fun. By making your diet fun, you will feel happier, more motivated and will find it easier to stick to.
Don’t cut anything out of your diet completely, just change how much you eat of it or how you make it. For example, instead of ordering in a takeaway pizza, hold your own DIY pizza making night. It’s fun, easy to do and much healthier than a greasy takeaway.
An excellent way to motivate yourself to eat more fruits and veggies is to grow them yourself. If you have spent time growing and caring for your own vegetables, you will feel more excited to cook with them and eat them.
You can either create a vegetable patch in your garden if you have room or a mini vegetable garden in a container in your kitchen. If you choose to grow your vegetables indoors, you may need to invest in HydroGrow LED lighting, to give the plants the correct heat and light that they need.
5. Reward yourself
Eating healthily and sticking to it is not easy, especially when temptation is everywhere. As you get closer to your main goal, make sure that each time you reach a new milestone you reward yourself.
Go shopping and buy a new outfit, head out for dinner and order yourself a treat, or spend an evening relaxing with a glass of wine and a bubble bath. Rewarding yourself is one of the best ways to motivate yourself.
