About

Hi there, welcome to my blog burningsalad.  Before I explain what the blog is about and why I gave it such a strange name, let me tell you a little about myself.

My name is Nancy McCall; I am in my late twenties and work in an office in Manchester.  I love socialising with friends and enjoy spending time with my family as well.  I visit the gym at least three times a week, often early in the morning before I head out to work, but sometimes I will pop in after work for a short hour on the treadmill or cross-trainer.  I am currently engaged to my wonderful boyfriend Nick, though we don’t have a date set yet.

One thing that anyone who knows me will tell you about me is that I absolutely love food.  However, they will also enjoy telling you that I have not had the best track record when it comes to actually cooking food.  It’s true – I have had many, many disasters in the kitchen over the years, particularly when I moved into my own place and wasn’t cooking under the watchful eyes of my mum.  This brings me to why my blog is called burningsalad.  I am that one person in my group of friends and social network who could and has on at least one occasion, burnt a salad.

In my defence it was a chicken salad and it was just the chicken I burned and not the actual salad leaves or cold vegetables.  I suppose that really isn’t the point and I am just making excuses.  Anyway, so that is what this blog is all about.  The disasters and successes I’ve experienced in my great big cooking adventure.  Oh yes, there have been many successes along the way and I’ve gotten a lot better the more I’ve cooked.  What is that famous phrase?  That’s it, practice makes perfect!

While I wouldn’t say I am the perfect cooking queen, I have had many great successes that I am just too proud of not to share with all of you.  I do hope that my experiences will be funny, entertaining, interesting but most of all I hope that they will inspire and encourage any of you who are just like me – triers!

As well as telling you the gory details of when dishes I’ve tried to cook have gone badly wrong, including the Christmas dinner that has gone down as legendary within my group of friends and family.  I also will tell you about the great successes I’ve had and as well as that I will tell you about some of my favourite gadgets and gizmos that I have used on my path to greatness in the kitchen!

I do hope you enjoy reading my blog as much as I enjoyed writing it!
